With your partner you will investigate a famous explorer then use your imagination to create the treasure chest that you and your partner found.
Your treasure chest will need to include the following items:
A map of your explorers voyage
A Poem
A Portrait
Explorers Journal
Artifacts
After you complete your treasure chest, you will present it to the directors of the Fleming Museum (our class). They will determine whether or not the chest is authentic and deserves world wide recognition!
The Process
Your teacher will divide your class into partners or small groups. Below are the steps you will follow in order to complete this webquest.
1. Explorer Research
Before you can make your Treasure Chest, you must first know something about your explorer. Begin by printing out the Explorer Information Sheet. You will need it to keep track of the information you find about your explorer. Below are links to webpages that will help you with your research. You may also also use books from our library and classroom to gather information. Don't forget to print out a map of your explorer's voyage and save it for the mapmaking

2. Write a journal from the perspective of the explorer
3. Create artifacts that your explorer may have encountered.
During their journeys, explorers often took artifacts and drew pictures of what they had seen. It was their way of sharing information with people back home. (Artifacts are simple objects, such as a tool or ornament that represents a culture). Explorers also needed navigational tools to help them find their way
Your group is responsible for contributing 3 artifacts or navigational tools to the treasure chest to show what your explorer may have seen on his/her journey. One item can be a drawn picture, but the other items should be an object that you create. Here are some sites that show possible artifacts
your explorer might have come in contact with.
